Bobby Brown Biography

Bobby Brown is an R&B musician and the late Whitney Houston‘s ex-husband. Bobby Brown was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in the United States on February 5, 1969. He is an actor and producer best known for his roles in Wild Hogs (2007), Ghostbusters II (1989), and A Thin Line Between Love and Hate (1996). His parents were Carole Brown, a teacher, and Herbert Brown, a construction worker. He was involved in gangs and petty stealing while growing up in Roxbury’s Orchard Park Projects, which led to him being shot in the knee at a party once. He saw his friend die after being stabbed when he was 11 years old. Young and inspired by James Brown, he joined a church choir.

Bobby Brown began his musical career as a youngster with the group New Edition, which also included Michael Bivins, Ricky Bell, Travis Pettus, and Corey Rackley; however, Rackley was soon replaced by Ralph Tresvant. After that, the lineup was changed multiple times, with Pettus eventually quitting and being replaced by Ronnie DeVoe. They joined Maurice Starr’s record company in 1982, when their debut album, “Candy Girl,” was published. Both on the US R&B chart and in the UK, the title tune peaked at number one. When their self-titled second album peaked at number six in the US, it launched them into prominence. However, Brown’s growing resentment of Tresvant’s public attention caused a great deal of animosity inside the band, and as a result, he frequently sang out of turn on stage. Although there has been a lot of debate regarding the circumstances, he left in 1986. He joined MCA Records as a solo performer, put out his debut album, King of Stage, in 1986, and scored a number one success with the ballad “Girlfriend.” In 1988, he published “Don’t Be Cruel,” his most popular album, as a result of his collaboration with a number of renowned producers. It featured his number-one single “My Prerogative,” which also launched him on a two-year world tour during which he frequently got into controversy for acting inappropriately on stage. Two of his songs were included on the soundtrack for “Ghostbusters II” in 1989, a movie in which he also had a cameo. His 1989 remix album, “Dance! Ya Know It,” was a huge hit in the UK. His subsequent album, “Bobby,” featured a duet he sang with his wife Whitney Houston. The failure of Brown’s final two albums was a result of his fading enthusiasm for music-making. He collaborated with rapper Ja Rule on the 2002 single “Thug Lovin” and provided vocals for Damian Marley’s “Beautiful” in 2006. He performed a duet on “Real Love” with Macy Gray in 2010. Brown and New Edition regrouped twice, first in 1990 at the MTV Video Music Awards and again in 1996 for the release of their album “Home Again.” They reconnected again in a memorial performance after Michael Jackson‘s passing and at the BET 25th anniversary special in 2005.

The movies “Ghostbusters II,” “Panther,” “Two Can Play That Game,” “Gang of Roses,” “Nora’s Hair Salon,” and “Go for Broke” all featured cameos from Bobby Brown. He made an appearance on Mother Goose Rock ‘n’ Rhyme for children and starred in “A Thin Line Between Love and Hate.” He and his wife Houston took part in the reality program “Being Bobby Brown” in 2005.

At the age of 17, Bobby Brown had his first child, Landon. LaPrincia and Robert Barisford Brown, Jr. were his two children with Kim Ward, whom he dated from 1989 to 1991. He currently resides in Johns Creek, an Atlantan neighborhood. He was given an ADD diagnosis when he was young, and bipolar disorder followed.

From an early age, he battled drinking and drug addiction. After marrying Houston, he developed drug addictions to cocaine, crack, and heroin, but he now claims to be clean. Throughout his life, he has been detained on multiple occasions for drug possession, DUI, DWI, and domestic abuse. He crashed his wife’s Mitsubishi during a police pursuit, then resisted being taken into custody while cursing at the authorities and peeing in public. He was imprisoned in 2004 for violating his parole following a DUI accusation, and he also came dangerously close to being imprisoned for unpaid child support. Even though he had only spent nine hours of his 55-day sentence, he was locked up once more in 2013. He started receiving therapy for his alcoholism in rehab in 2012.
