Bruce Springsteen Biography

Frederick Bruce Joseph Springsteen is a singer, songwriter, and musician from the United States. He has 20 studio albums out, many of which have the E Street Band as his backup band. He is one of the creators of the heartland rock genre of music, which combines the mainstream rock musical style with narrative songs about working-class American life. He is a native of the Jersey Shore. Springsteen has built a reputation for his poetic, socially concerned lyrics and exuberant theatrical performances, which sometimes last up to four hours. His career has lasted six decades. “The Boss” is the moniker given to him.

On September 23, 1949, at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey, Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen was born. Springsteen’s first two albums, Greetings from Asbury Park, New Jersey and The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle, neither of which brought in a sizable following, were released in 1973. In 1975, he adopted a new look and released Born to Run, which helped him become a household name. Darkness on the Edge of Town (1978) and The River (1980), which peaked at the top of the US Billboard 200 chart, came after it. Nebraska was his first album released without the E Street Band (1982). Born in the U.S.A. (1984), which saw Bruce Springsteen reunited with the E Street Band, becoming one of the best-selling albums of all time and his most commercially successful record. The title tune was one of seven of its tracks to make it into the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Springsteen used primarily studio musicians to record his following three albums, Tunnel of Love (1987), Human Touch (1992), and Lucky Town (1992). For the 1995 albums Greatest Hits and The Ghost of Tom Joad, he put the E Street Band back together. The EP Blood Brothers was his final 1990s release (1996).

Springsteen dedicated the September 11 tragedy victims in his 2002 album The Rising. Devils & Dust (2005) and We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions (2006) were two more folk albums released by Springsteen. These were followed by Magic (2007) and Working on a Dream (2008), two more albums with the E Street Band (2009). His two subsequent albums, Wrecking Ball (2012) and High Hopes (2014), reached the top of the global album charts. His most recent albums are the solo Western Stars (2019) and Letter to You, which features the E Street Band (2020).

Springsteen is one of the best-selling musicians in the world, having sold more than 150 million records worldwide and over 64 million albums in the United States. Springsteen is a notable performer from the album era. Twenty Grammy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, an Academy Award, and a Special Tony Award are just a few of the honors he has received for his work (for Springsteen on Broadway). In addition to receiving the Kennedy Center Honors in 2009, being named MusiCares Person of the Year in 2013, and receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama in 2016, Bruce Springsteen was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.
