Bryan Guy Adams is a singer, songwriter, composer, and photographer from Canada. According to sources, Adams has sold between 75 and 100 million CDs and singles worldwide, making him one of the best-selling musicians of all time. Adams had 25 top-15 singles in Canada and a dozen or more in each of the US, UK, and Australia in the 2010s, making him the most played artist on Canadian radio.

Adams was born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, on November 5, 1959. At the age of 15, Adams joined his first band, and at the age of 20, he released his self-titled debut album. Cuts Like a Knife, his top ten album from 1983, featured the title tune and the ballad “Straight From the Heart,” his first top ten hit in the United States. With songs like “Run to You” and “Summer of ’69,” both top ten singles in the US and Canada, and the power ballad “Heaven,” a US number one hit, his 1984 Canadian and US number one album, Reckless, he became a global celebrity. His 1987 album Into the Fire, which featured the top ten single “Heat of the Night” in the United States and Canada, reached number two in Canada and the top ten in the United States and several other countries.

In 1991, Adams released “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You,” which charted at number one in at least 19 countries, including the United Kingdom for 16 and 18 weeks, respectively, and Europe overall. It has sold over 15 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling singles of all time. The song was featured on Adams’ Waking Up the Neighbors (1991), a worldwide number one album that went on to sell 16 million copies worldwide, earning a diamond certification in Canada. “Can’t Stop This Thing We Started,” which reached number one in Canada and number two in the United States, was another significant hit from the album, and it also charted in the top ten in several other countries. Beginning in 1993, Adams’ hits were mostly ballads, including the worldwide number one or two hits “Please Forgive Me” (1993); “All for Love” (1993); and “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?” (1995), the latter two topping the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

In many countries, Adams’ 18 til I Die was a top five album in 1996, however it only reached number 31 in the United States. He sang duets with Barbra Streisand (“I Finally Found Someone” (1996), his last US top ten hit) and Melanie C (“When You’re Gone,” an international top five smash) in the United States. Adams had six European Radio Airplay number one hits for 32 weeks in the 1990s, the fourth and third most of any artist, and three European Sales Chart number one songs for 29 weeks, the most of any artist. Since 1999, Adams has published eight albums, three of which have charted at number one in Canada and the latest three of which have charted in the top three in the United Kingdom, Germany, and other parts of Europe.

Adams was placed 38th on the Billboard Hot 100’s all-time best artists list in 2008. Adams has been nominated for five Golden Globe Awards and three Academy Awards for his songwriting for films, and has won 20 Juno Awards and a Grammy Award for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture or Television, among 15 Grammy nominations. Adams is a member of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Canadian Broadcast Hall of Fame, the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. Adams received the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award on May 1, 2010, in recognition of his 30 years of service to the arts.
