Busta Rhymes Biography

Busta Rhymes is the stage name of Trevor George Smith Jr., an American rapper and actor. After wide receiver George “Buster” Rhymes of the NFL and CFL, Chuck D of Public Enemy gave him the name Busta Rhymes. He is one of the most nominated artists without winning a Grammy after receiving 12 nominations for his work.

He was listed as one of the 50 Greatest MCs of All Time (1987–2007) by About.com, and Steve Huey of AllMusic praised him as one of the decade’s best and most productive rappers. He was ranked among the Top 50 Lyricists of All Time by The Source in 2012. One of the finest visual artists in hip-hop, according to MTV.

On May 20, 1972, Trevor George Smith Jr., the son of Trevor Smith Sr. and Geraldine Green, both Jamaican immigrants, was born in Brooklyn’s East Flatbush area. Smith’s family relocated to Uniondale, Long Island, when he was twelve. Leaders of the New School, an East Coast hip hop trio, was founded in 1990 by Smith and fellow Long Islanders Charlie Brown (born Bryan Higgins), Dinco D (born James Jackson), and Cut Monitor Milo (born Sheldon Scott). The group’s big break came when Public Enemy asked them to open for them. Busta Rhymes and Charlie Brown each have their own stage names thanks to Public Enemy’s Chuck D. His breakthrough performance was as a guest rapper on the song “Scenario” by A Tribe Called Quest. They published T.I.M.E. (The Inner Mind’s Eye) in 1993. Smith rose to fame thanks to his sophisticated rhymes and distinctive style, which stood out among other New York rap musicians of the day. Smith, whose parents were both from Jamaica, has embraced his background in his songs and public persona. Smith was the only person in the group to have dreadlocks and to use patois, or Jamaican dialect, in his raps. Smith’s distinctive approach gave the band a component that facilitated their quick popularity. The trio soon split up on the set of Yo! MTV Raps, though, as a result of internal issues brought on by his rising fame.

After the group disbanded shortly after, Rhymes established himself as a popular guest rapper, contributing to many other artists’ songs before releasing The Coming, his solo debut album, in 1996. The album peaked at number six on the Billboard 200 album chart, went platinum, and earned Rhymes a Grammy nomination. Extinction Level Event 2: The Wrath of God, which he released in 2020, is the most recent of his nine solo albums. His hit singles include the following: “I love it! “Touch It,” “What’s It Gonna Be?,” “Pass the Courvoisier, Part II,” “Got You All in Check,” “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See,” “Dangerous,” “Turn It Up” (Remix)/”Fire It Up,” “Gimme Some More,” “What’s It Gonna Be,” and “.

He also formed the production company The Conglomerate and the record label Conglomerate (formerly Flipmode Entertainment) (formerly Flipmode Squad).

Along with Black Thought of The Roots and Joell Ortiz, Busta Rhymes was a featured performer on The Hamilton Mixtape and sang a remix of “My Shot.” On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the group played the song. Through Epic Records, Rhymes debuted a brand-new song titled “Get It” on February 2, 2018, which features Missy Elliott and Kelly Rowland. He was confirmed to be a featured musician on the song “Tastes State” from Azealia Banks’ album Fantasea II: The Second Wave in 2018.
