Lionel Brockman Richie Jr. is a well-known American singer, songwriter, record producer, and television personality. He was born on June 20, 1949 in the United States. In the 1970s, he rose to prominence as a songwriter and as the co-lead vocalist of the funk band the Commodores. Prior to his departure from the band, he was responsible for creating and recording the smash singles “Easy,” “Sail On,” “Three Times a Lady,” and “Still” with the Commodores. In 1980, he penned and produced the number one single on the US Billboard Hot 100 for Kenny Rogers, which was titled “Lady.” The next year, he penned and produced the single “Endless Love,” which he recorded as a duet with Diana Ross. “Endless Love” is now in the top 20 best-selling songs of all time, and it was the most successful song in each artist’s career. The album Lionel Richie, which he released in 1982 and which went on to sell more than four million copies and generate the singles “You Are,” “My Love,” and the number one single “Truly,” marked the official beginning of his career as a solo artist.
