Motley Crue Biography

Mötley Crüe is a heavy metal band from the United States that was formed in 1981 in Los Angeles. Bassist Nikki Sixx, drummer Tommy Lee, lead guitarist Mick Mars, and lead singer Vince Neil formed the band. Mötley Crüe’s albums have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide. They’ve also racked up seven platinum and multi-platinum certifications, nine Top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 list (including Dr. Feelgood, Mötley Crüe’s sole number one album), twenty-two Top 40 mainstream rock songs, and six Top 20 pop singles. In the 1990s and 2000s, the band went through several lineup changes, including the addition of vocalist John Corabi (who replaced Neil from 1992 to 1996) and drummers Randy Castillo and Samantha Maloney, who filled in for Lee after his departure from Mötley Crüe in 1999; he returned to the band in 2004, and their current lineup has been the same since then.

The title track from the band’s debut album, “Too Fast For Love,” was supposedly recorded over the course of three days when the members were under the influence of alcohol.

Their activities included urinating in public or on the floors of their bedrooms, as well as throwing beds and furniture such as futons out of hotel windows in Hamburg, Germany, according to the website “Page Six.” Nikki Sixx was arrested for the first time in 1973 at a Rolling Stones performance while selling “chocolate” mescaline. After performing at the US Festival in May 1983, and with the help of the new medium of MTV, the band quickly became popular in the United States. Shout at the Devil, their second album, was released in September 1983. The album was the band’s first foray into the mainstream, and it went on to be certified four times platinum. The album’s title tune and album artwork sparked debate because they both alluded to Satanism. They soon caught the attention of heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne, who booked them as the opening act for his Bark at the Moon tour in 1984. Backstage theatrics, extravagant attire, extreme high-heeled boots, lavishly applied make-up, and seemingly endless abuse of booze and drugs were all part of the band’s reputation.

Mötley Crüe’s members were known for their hedonistic lifestyles and androgynous personas. Following the hard rock and heavy metal roots of the band’s first two albums, Too Fast for Love (1981) and Shout at the Devil (1983), Mötley Crüe joined the first wave of glam metal with the release of its third album Theater of Pain (1985).The band is also noted for their extravagant live shows, which include flame throwing guitars, roller coaster drum kits, and pyrotechnics (fireworks) (including lighting Sixx on fire). Saints of Los Angeles, Mötley Crüe’s most recent studio album, was released on June 24, 2008. On New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2015, the band performed what was supposed to be their final gig. The concert was captured on film for a 2016 theatrical and Blu-ray release.

Neil stated in September 2018 that Mötley Crüe had reformed and was working on new material after a two-and-a-half-year hiatus. The band released four new songs on the soundtrack for The Dirt, a Netflix biopic based on the band’s New York Times best-selling autobiography of the same name, on March 22, 2019. The soundtrack debuted at #1 on the iTunes All Genres Album Chart, #3 on the Billboard Top Album and Digital Album Sales Charts, #10 on the Billboard 200, and #10 globally. The autobiography re-entered the New York Times Best Seller list at number six on the Nonfiction Print list and number eight on the Nonfiction Combined Print and E-Book list. Mötley Crüe will co-headline a North American tour with Def Leppard in the summer and fall of 2022, marking the band’s first major tour in seven years.
