Born January10th, 1953, she went to Lindenhurst High School and The Julian School and is a classically trained mezzo-soprano. Pat got married young, she met her first husband when she was 16. Fearing he might not survive Vietnam, they got married. She got her start after quitting her job as a bank teller, inspired by going to a Lizza Minnelli concert. She divorced her first husband and moved to New York City. In 1975, Pat performed at an open-mic night at ‘Catch A Rising Star’ to a roaring crowd. This led her to get introduced to the club’s owner, Rick Newman, who would go on to be her manager for over fifteen years. Between 1975 and 76, she landed a role in a Broadway musical.

Pat is known for her Spandex outfit look. On Halloween, 1977, after winning a costume party, her and her group went to celebrate by performing at ‘Catch A Rising Star’ where she received a standing ovation. After performing several more times in the costume, the look was tweaked and would become her signature look.

“I had all this big eyeliner on, I had this little short thing with these black tights and these little short boots and a ray gun. So, I had been doing fine, having gigs and all that kind of stuff. But I sang in costume that night. It was a whole other experience. And I remember standing there thinking to myself, ‘Hhmm. What’s happening here?'” Benatar said in an interview. This would turn out to be a catalyst that helped launch her career.

In 1978, she was recording jingles for Pepsi-Cola Commercials, conducting regular performances at Catch A Rising Star, she headlined Tramp’s in New York City. Several record company representatives were in the audience, and would go on to sign with Chrysalis Records. By 1979 she had met Neil Geraldo — her future husband — who became her guitarist and musical partner. The duo worked together and ultimately married in 1982.

Her debut album was In The Heat of The Night in 1979 and was a huge success. She had two hit singles “Heartbreaker” and “I Need A Lover.” During the early days of MTV, Pat was one of the most played artists.

That was followed up in 1980 with Crimes Of Passion, which included the iconic ‘Hit Me With Your Best Shot’. Crimes of Passion would remain her best selling album, selling almost 5 million copies worldwide. The song reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became her first Top 10 Hit in the US.

Her last album dropped in 2003, Go, which paid homage to 1980’s nostalgia. She continues to perform live.
