Pink Floyd, known for Another Brick On The Wall, were formed in London in 1964 with original band members , Nick Mason, Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Bob Klose and early members were Syd Barrett and Richard Wright. ( Died in 2008)

Pink Floyd released their first album, The Piper at the Games of Dawn, on August 5th 1967. ‘The Piper at the Games of Dawn’ reached number 6 on the UK Albums charts and 131 on the Billboard 200. (It also has the distinction of being the only Pink Floyd album without David Gilmour, Barret’s eventual replacement) This album is also undoubtedly band’s greatest. ‘ I think that when it was finished, everyone thought it was the best thing we’d ever done to date, and everyone was very pleased with it.’ – Nick Mason. They have released 15 studio albums between 1967 and 2014.

Between 1968 and 1994 they have done over 12 tours.

The band has sold over 250 million copies worlwide. The Dark Side of the Moon released in 1973 and sold over 45 million copies which is Pink Floyd’s commercial jackpot and one of the best selling albums worldwide. The follow- up, ‘the Wall’ and ‘Wish You Were Here’ albums come after it. The dark Side of the Moon also has been certified 14* Platinum in UK.

Pink Floyd had over 54 nominations for major awards and they have won 23. They also had 4 nominations for Grammy and they won only once. In 2008, they have won Polar Music Prize for their contribution to modern music by King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweeden.

They had fifteen albums in the Top 40, (The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, A Saucerful of Secrets, More, Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Obscured by Clouds, the Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, the Wall, the Final Cut, A Momentary Lapse of Reason, the Division Bell and the Endless River.) They had six singles in the Top 40.

Syd Barrett or with original name Roger Keith Barrett was the first lead singer of Pink Floyd. By 1968 Barrett who was struggling with schizophrenia, was replaced by guitarist Gilmour.
