Scorpions Biography

Scorpions, known for Rock You Like a Hurricane, were formed in 1965 in Hanover.Since the band’s inception, their musical style has ranged from hard rock to heavy metal. The band’s original lineup from 1978 to 1992 consisted of Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker, Matthias Jabs, Francis Buchholz, and Herman Rarebell. The current lineup consists of Pawel Maciwoda, Rudolf Shenker, Klaus Meine, Matthias Jabs, and Mikkey Dee. Rudolf Schenker is the only member of the band that has remained unchanged since its founding in 1965.

Scorpions relaesed their first studio album, Lonesome Crow, in 1972. They have released eighteen studio albums between 1972 and 2015.

Love at First Sting is the ninth studio album by Scorpions and this is also the most successful album of the band. They have released, Love at First Sting, in 1984 and it peaked at number 6 on the Billboard 200. Only this album reached triple-platinum status as of 1995.

Scorpions have done over 25 tours in over 80 countries between 1972 and 2020.

Scorpions have sold more than 100 million units worlwide which makes the Scorpions the most successful rock band of Continental Europe by far. Their certified album sold in the most important markets over 22 million. One of the their most recognized hits , Wind of Change, is one of the best selling singles in the world. It sold over 14 million copies.

Scorpions have won over 28 awards, including Best German Live Band, Album of the Year in Germany (Virgin Killer).

They have eight albums in the Top 40, (Lovedrive, Animal Magnetism, Blackout, Love at First Sting, World Wide Live, Savage Amusement, Crazy World and Return to Forever) and ten albums in the Top 100 ( Lovedrive, Animal Magnetism, Blackout, Love at First Sting, World Wide Live, Savage Amusement, Crazy World, Return to Forever, Face the Heat and Sting in the Tail.)

They have fifteen albums in the Top 100 and tree in the Top 40.

The album Lovedrive peaked at No. 36 and it charted for 11 weeks.

The album Animal Magnestism peaked at No. 23 and it charted for 23 weeks.

The album Blackout peaked at No.11 and it charted for 11 weeks.

The album Love at First Sting peaked at No. 17 and it charted for 6 weeks.

The album World Wide live peaked at No. 18 and it charted for 8 weeks

The album Savage Amusement peaked at No. 18 and it charted for 6 weeks.

The album Crazy World peaked at No. 27 and it charted for 7 weeks.

Scorpions released their eighteenth and latest studio album, Return to Forever, on February 20th, 2015. The band is also preparing to release their 19th album, Rock Believer, as of Februry 2022.

Klaus Meine is the lead singer of the band since 1969. Werner Hoyer was the lead singer of scorpions between 1967 and 1968 and also Bernd Hegner between 1968 and 1969.
