Chart Performance: Pop (#10) & R&B (#2); 1999
Story Behind The Song By Ed Osborne
Kevon Edmonds, along with his brother Melvin and college classmate Keith Mitchell, formed After 7 while at Indiana University. Post-graduation found the three holding down nine-to-five jobs while looking for a break into the music biz, hopefully though Kevon’s older brother, Kenneth, a.k.a. “Babyface.” Babyface and his partner L.A. Reid (Mitchell’s cousin) eventually signed After 7 to a production deal, resulting in their 1998 self-titled LP. It launched five R&B chart records, including two #1’s, which also peaked in the pop Top 10. By the time After 7’s run was over, the group had notched up four more Top 10 hits. Kevon teamed up again with brothers Melvin and Kenneth in the fictitious group Milestone for the Vanessa Williams’ film Soul Food singing Care ‘Bout You (#10 R&B, 1997). Two years later Kevon was finally solo with 24/7 although the other Edmonds bothers lent their support this time, as well.

Hi. I got my first record at age two and never looked back, spending a decades-long career in radio and the music business. Even after years of reading about and listening to all types of music, I am still fascinated by it. Apart from that, I’m endlessly intrigued by art, nature, and the inner lives of people (and dogs).
