Chart Performance: Pop (#3), 1994
Story Behind The Song By Ed Osborne
Real McCoy sprung up in the midst of Euro-Dance fever where singles, rather than albums, ruled the day and groups consisted of anonymous singers maneuvered by Svengali-like record producers. Real McCoy’s originator was Olaf “O-Jay” Jeglitza, a well-connected figure in Berlin’s emerging dance music scene. O-Jay crafted It’s On You, the first Real McCoy single, which quickly reached #1 in a dozen countries. For Another Night, O-Jay was joined by Vanessa Mason and Patricia Petersen. Unlike It’s On You, Another Night got off to a rocky start, stalling at #60 on the U.K. chart in 1993, before hitting #2 in a remixed version a year later. When Another Night was released in the U.S., it’s ascent was much quicker, moving into the Top 10 in seven weeks. Remarkably, the platinum seller stayed at #3 for 11 weeks while two successive Boyz II Men singles kept Real McCoy and others out of the #1 position.

Hi. I got my first record at age two and never looked back, spending a decades-long career in radio and the music business. Even after years of reading about and listening to all types of music, I am still fascinated by it. Apart from that, I’m endlessly intrigued by art, nature, and the inner lives of people (and dogs).
