Story Behind The Song By Ed Osborne

Between 1971 and 1974, Slade launched 12 straight singles into the British Top 5. One of the UK band’s #1’s, Cum On Feel The Noize, even roared all the way to #98 in America, and that was that until a California band released its version a decade later.

The original name of the L.A. outfit was Little Women until Richard Parfitt of Status Quo suggested “Quite Right,” which, when singer Kevin DuBrow wrapped his accent around it, came out “Quiet Riot.”

The original 1975 lineup lasted about five years, then broke up. Later DuBrow revived the Quiet Riot brand and released Metal Health, which consisted of demos plus some new tracks. One of the studio recordings, Cum On Feel The Noize, appeared only because the

producer thought Noize and Quiet Riot were a perfect match. QR didn’t agree so, in protest, DuBrow clowned his way through the session and tossed off his vocals. Even with the screw-ups, Metal Health went on to sell an amazing six million copies on the strength of Slade’s Noizey song.
