Dazz – Brick | Top 40 Chart Performance, Story and Song Meaning
Chart Performance: Pop (#3) and R&B (#1 for 4 weeks); 1977
Story Behind The Song By Ed Osborne
Reggie Hargus wanted a band name that was “solid,” not spacey, and so, spying Eddie Irons’ father building a new swimming pool in his backyard, he hit upon Brick. Now all the five members of Brick needed was a hit to go with their new name.
Every Wednesday afternoon throughout 1975, they trooped into a leaky unairconditioned second floor studio in an Atlanta suburb and practiced their craft. Spotted and signed at a club gig by Eddie Biscoe, president of Bang Records, Brick quickly released an album with Dazz as the lead single.
After a slow start, the disco jazz tune entered the pop Top 10 and ultimately spent four weeks as the #1 R&B hit in America.

Hi. I got my first record at age two and never looked back, spending a decades-long career in radio and the music business. Even after years of reading about and listening to all types of music, I am still fascinated by it. Apart from that, I’m endlessly intrigued by art, nature, and the inner lives of people (and dogs).
