Story Behind The Song By Ed Osborne

“Music runs in the family” is an understatement for Jim Seals and Dash Crofts. Jim’s cousins – Troy, Brady, and Johnny Duncan – have all had successful careers in country music.

Dash’s brother Dan was one half of England Dan & John Ford Coley before moving on to record many country hits under his full name. As for Jim and Dash themselves, they first met in 1958, later joining The Champs (after the group scored with Tequila), touring and recording with the band until 1965.

After a stint as The Dawnbreakers, Seals & Crofts recorded two independent label albums and opened for such acts as Chicago, before finally hitting the big time with Summer Breeze (#6, 1972).

In total, S&C released eight LPs in six years, producing three Top 10 hits in the process. Oddly, all three peaked at #6, including the third one, Get Closer.
