Get Ready For This – 2 Unlimited | Top 40 Chart Performance, Story and Song Meaning

Chart Performance: Pop (#76) and Pop (#76); 1992

Story Behind The Song By Ed Osborne

Throughout the first half of the 1990’s two of the world’s top dance artists were rapper Ray “Kid Ray” Slijngaard and vocalist Anita Doth aka 2 Unlimited.

The masterminds behind 2 Unlimited were producers Phil Wilde and Jean Paul DeCoster, who met Ray and Anita though Marvin D, with whom Ray once toured.

Anita’s resume included a stint with Trouble Sisters, and when she met Ray at a Marvin D concert, the stage was set for success. Wilde and DeCoster needed an outlet for their songs, and Ray and Anita were the perfect vehicle.

Get Ready For This took Europe’s techno/rave scene by storm in late 1991, hitting #2 in Britain and sparking a run of ten consecutive smash singles.

Stateside, Get Ready For This’ pop chart performance paled in comparison, yet, it did light up the U.S.

club scene in 1992 and again in 1995. Ray and Anita’s dance anthem entered mainstream American culture for good when sports fans made Get Ready an arena favorite.
