Story Behind The Song By Ed Osborne
Disco, as a cultural phenomenon, shared much with rock ‘n’ roll. It was the product of a strong grassroots uprising, this time from the streets of America’s cities. It, like rock, fostered diversity and equality, chiefly among gays, blacks, and Latinos.
And – although its opponents were loathe to acknowledge it – disco’s lyrics mined the same emotional landscape as rock ‘n’ roll. In I Love The Nightlife, Alicia Bridges sings of a broken relationship and her desire to heal its wounds.
“I need some action, I want to live!,” she wails. Pre-disco, Alicia cut her vocal teeth fronting Zachary Bridge, a heavy rock band that backed up strippers in burlesque houses.
Nightlife earned a Grammy nomination and later “starred” in the popular film, The Adventures Of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert.

Hi. I got my first record at age two and never looked back, spending a decades-long career in radio and the music business. Even after years of reading about and listening to all types of music, I am still fascinated by it. Apart from that, I’m endlessly intrigued by art, nature, and the inner lives of people (and dogs).
