I’m So Excited – Pointer Sisters | Top 40 Chart Performance, Story and Song Meaning
Chart Performance: Pop (#30) and R&B (#46 ); 1984, 1982
Story Behind The Song By Ed Osborne
Draped in 1940’s-style threads, the scintillating Pointer Sisters racked up the funky crossover hit Yes We Can Can in 1973, and the R&B chart topper, How Long (Betcha Got A Chick On The Side) in ’75, before their career went into a stall.
Stripped down to a trio when sister Bonnie went solo, the remaining Pointers regained momentum with Fire (#2; 1979), He’s So Shy (#3; 1980), and Slow Hand (#2; 1981) only to watch their fortunes fade once more. Then came Break Out in 1984.
First, lead-off single I Need You peaked at #13 on the R&B side, then Automatic reached the Top 5 both pop and R&B. Jump (For My Love) made it hit single #3 from Break Out with matching pop/R&B peaks of #3.
I’m So Excited, a remix of the title track from a 1982 Pointers album, continued the winning streak before Neutron Dance and Baby Come And Get It made the total hit count six from the appropriately titled Break Out.

Hi. I got my first record at age two and never looked back, spending a decades-long career in radio and the music business. Even after years of reading about and listening to all types of music, I am still fascinated by it. Apart from that, I’m endlessly intrigued by art, nature, and the inner lives of people (and dogs).
