Story Behind The Song By Ed Osborne
Growing up in Washington, D.C., Mya Marie Harrison took dance lessons as a child which led to a stint with T.W.A. (Tappers With Attitude). Her aptitude for dancing took her to the Dance Theater of Harlem where she studied under Savion Glover, who’d created Bring In Da Noise, Bring In Da Funk. As if one artistic endeavor weren’t enough for Mya, she also pursued singing. Her dad, Sherman, not only approved, he shopped his daughter’s demo around. Haqq Islam of University Records was duly impressed and gave the teen a deal. Among those on board for Mya’s debut was Dru Hill. Dru’s Mark “Sisqó” Andrews and producer Daryl Pearson penned Mya’s first single, It’s All About Me, and Sisqó helped out vocally as well. Built around a sample from Moments In Love, a 1985 track by England’s The Art Of Noise, Me mesmerized music lovers. Before Mya returned with a second solo single, she reached #8 R&B as a guest on Ghetto Supastar (That Is What You Are) by Pras Michel.

Hi. I got my first record at age two and never looked back, spending a decades-long career in radio and the music business. Even after years of reading about and listening to all types of music, I am still fascinated by it. Apart from that, I’m endlessly intrigued by art, nature, and the inner lives of people (and dogs).
