No One Like You – Scorpions | Top 40 Chart Performance, Story and Song Meaning
Chart Performance: Pop (#65 ) & Rock (#1); 1982
Story Behind The Song By Ed Osborne
Germany’s most popular heavy metal band, Scorpions, was originally formed at the dawn of the 1970’s by Rudolph Schenker. Over the next dozen years members came and went, the most notable being Rudolph’s younger guitar-whiz brother, Michael.
The two common threads through all the personnel changes were Rudolph and vocalist Klaus Meine. 1980 saw Scorpions break the platinum mark in the U.S. with Animal Magnetism, their eighth international album release.
With seemingly clear sailing ahead, the band was stung when Meine needed surgery on his vocal chords. Rumors that Klaus had been sacked were laid to rest with the appearance of Blackout in 1982 with the singer fronting the Magnetism lineup.
Blackout quickly built on its predecessor’s success. Fueled by the #1 Rock track No One Like You, written by Klaus and Rudolph, Blackout reached the Top 10, easily surpassing the previous high-water chart peak reached by Magnetism (#52). As for Michael, he achieved fame on his own with the Michael Schenker and McAuley Schenker Groups.

Hi. I got my first record at age two and never looked back, spending a decades-long career in radio and the music business. Even after years of reading about and listening to all types of music, I am still fascinated by it. Apart from that, I’m endlessly intrigued by art, nature, and the inner lives of people (and dogs).
