Now That We Found Love – Heavy D & The Boyz | Top 40 Chart Performance, Story and Song Meaning
Chart Performance: Pop (#11) and R&B (#5); 1991
Story Behind The Song By Ed Osborne
Now That We Found Love, written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, dates back to 1973 when it first appeared on The O’Jays classic LP, Ship Ahoy. In 1978 Jamaican artists Third World reworked it.
Their version reached the Top 10 in England and on the U.S. R&B chart, yet, generated little noise on pop side. It took Heavy D. & The Boyz’ hip-hop flavored single to spread Love to pop radio playlists in the U.S. and once again in the U.K.. Heavy D’s album, Peaceful Journey, – which effectively combined reggae and R&B rhythms with more sensitive lyrics than the usual rap/hip-hop fare – also sold well.
Heavy (a.k.a. Dwight Meyers) showed himself to be an astute businessman, deftly maintaining a positive image without being branded a sellout. He went on to become a president of Uptown Records, as well as an actor (The Cider House Rules).

Hi. I got my first record at age two and never looked back, spending a decades-long career in radio and the music business. Even after years of reading about and listening to all types of music, I am still fascinated by it. Apart from that, I’m endlessly intrigued by art, nature, and the inner lives of people (and dogs).
