Reunited – Peaches & Herb | Top 40 Chart Performance, Story and Song Meaning
Chart Performance: Pop (#1) & R&B (#1 for 4 weeks); 1979
Story Behind The Song By Ed Osborne
Fans of Peaches & Herb might have understandably assumed that “reunited” referred to the artists themselves who’d charted between 1967 – with Let’s Fall In Love (#21 Pop & #11 R&B) – and 1971 – The Sound Of Silence (#100 Pop).
If so, they were at least half right. Herb Fame was indeed back, however, the current Peaches was not Francine Barker (Peaches #1) nor Marlene Mack (Peaches #2), but Linda Green.
Still, Herb and Linda’s vocal combination was also magical, as evidenced by Shake Your Groove Thing, the lead-off single from the latest P&H LP, 2 Hot!. Groove Thing slowly boogied into both the pop and R&B Top 10.
Less than two months later, and 12 years to the week after Close Your Eyes by the original P&H hit #8, Reunited reached #1. The beautiful ballad racked up platinum sales, was nominated for three Grammy awards, and…best of all…reunited Herb with music lovers everywhere.

Hi. I got my first record at age two and never looked back, spending a decades-long career in radio and the music business. Even after years of reading about and listening to all types of music, I am still fascinated by it. Apart from that, I’m endlessly intrigued by art, nature, and the inner lives of people (and dogs).
