Chart Performance: Pop (#5); 1993
Story Behind The Song By Ed Osborne
Snap! was another prime example of a group created by studio producers. In this case, Snap! – the singers – consisted of Durron “Turbo B” Butler and cousin Jackie Harris. Despite the success of the first single in 1990 (The Power), Harris departed. The Snap! train rolled on with Pennye Ford, a former Gap Band vocalist, on board. In Britain, Snap! notched up four Top 10 hits plus a second “megamix” appearance by The Power between March of 1990 and 1992. In the summer of 1992, Rhythm Is a Dancer – this time with Thea Austin on lead vocals – entered both the U.S. and U.K. charts. After three months, Snap!’s third American chart record entered the Top 10 and stayed there for 14 weeks. When 1993 came to a close, only Tag Team’s Whoomp! (There It Is) had outlasted Rhythm‘s total chart run of 39 weeks.

Hi. I got my first record at age two and never looked back, spending a decades-long career in radio and the music business. Even after years of reading about and listening to all types of music, I am still fascinated by it. Apart from that, I’m endlessly intrigued by art, nature, and the inner lives of people (and dogs).
