Right Time Of The Night – Jennifer Warnes | Top 40 Chart Performance, Story and Song Meaning

Chart Performance: Pop (#6); 1977

Story Behind The Song By Ed Osborne

Jennifer Warnes’ first stab at recording stardom came in 1968 when she released her cover of the Beatles’ Here, There And Everywhere in 1968. Six more “Jennifer” singles followed, all to no avail. It

seemed as if Jennifer was destined to become a mere trivia footnote for her regular appearance in the 1960’s as a cast member of The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour television show.

However, her singing career got a second chance when Arista Records released Jennifer’s self-titled LP. Included were two tracks produced by Jim Ed Norman, who had played piano and crafted arrangements for America and the Eagles, and was starting to produce records.

One of the two, Right Time Of The Night. Night, written by Peter McCann, entered the Top 10 in April of 1977. Coincidentally, McCann’s own version debuted on the Hot 100 that sane week, as the flip side of his future Top 5 single, Do You Wanna Make Love.
