Run Away – Real McCoy | Top 40 Chart Performance, Story and Song Meaning

Chart Performance: Pop (#3); 1995

Story Behind The Song By Ed Osborne

As a hotbed for international dance music, Germany produced many hit singles (check out The Power and What Is Love on this collection) among them some monster tracks by Real McCoy.

The creative force behind Real McCoy was Olaf “O-Jay” Jeglitza, who’s talents included producing and performing. The first true RM single was It’s On You, a countries-wide #1.

O-Jay continued the accepted formula of using anonymous singers over a pulsating rhythm track for RM’s 1994 breakthrough, Another Night. Two American singers, Vanessa Mason and Patricia Petersen, handled the vocal chores on Another Night as well as the follow-up, Run Away.

Although Another Night stayed in the Top 10 for an astounding 23 weeks – almost equal to Run Away‘s total chart run of 24 weeks – Run Away was no slouch. It sprinted into the Top 10 in just three weeks, and revved up the dance floor mavens as a Top 3 DJ fav.
