Story Behind The Song By Ed Osborne

Christopher Cross, along with Rick Springfield and Jack Wagner, also starred on the television soap opera General Hospital, although in voice only.

The former Christopher Geppert of San Antonio, Texas got started in a heavy rock cover band called Flash. By the time he signed with Warner Brothers Records, it was his significant songwriting abilities that most attracted the label suits. Cross didn’t disappoint them.

His first album consisted of all self-penned songs, four of which – including Ride Like The Wind (#2) and Sailing (#1) – became hits, and Cross won five Grammies for his recording debut. His good fortunes continued when his fifth 45, Arthur’s Theme (Best That You can Do), also reached #1.

After two so-so selling singles from his second album, General Hospital began airing the track Think Of Laura as the love theme for its Luke and Laura Spencer characters. The song, inspired by Chris’ girlfriend’s best friend who’d been killed by a stray bullet, was his final Top 40 hit.
