Two Tickets To Paradise – Eddie Money | Top 40 Chart Performance, Story and Song Meaning

Chart Performance: Pop (#22); 1978

Story Behind The Song By Ed Osborne

Like father, like son was almost the story of Eddie Mahoney’s life. For a while in the early ’70’s, Eddie followed in his father’s footsteps, studying at the New York Police Academy on his way to becoming a Brooklyn cop. At night he moonlighted as Eddie Money, singer.

Eventually, singing won out and Eddie moved to California. Bill Graham, he of the famous Fillmore clubs and rock concerts, saw Eddie at one of the San Francisco Sound of the Cities Talent Shows, and was impressed enough to sign him to a management deal which led to a recording contract.

Eddie’s self-titled debut album hit the bins in 1977, and by early 1978 Money was on the charts with Baby Hold On. Two Tickets To Paradise became the second hit single off the LP.

Although Eddie’s music didn’t break new ground, it was solid radio friendly pop that listeners and consumers enjoyed immensely.
